Day 13 of 24 Days of Tea Tasting: Salted Caramel Oolong

Tea Information

Oolong Tea

Low Caffeine

Ingredients: Oolong tea, Caramel bits (sugar, condensed milk, glucose syrup, whole milk powder), Sugar crystals, Pineapple (pineapple, sugar, citric acid), Carob, Chicory Root, Artificial caramel flavouring, Salt. Contains milk.

Brewing Instructions:

Heat water to 90℃/195℉

Steep for 4-5 minutes

Observations

Sight: I can mostly see rolled oolong leaves and little cubes of caramel in the loose leaf. The caramel adds a pop of colour to the otherwise mostly monochrome tea. The oolong leaves relax and uncoil in the hot water. The tea steeps an orange colour.

Smell: This tea smells very good. I can smell the sweet and decadent salted caramel pieces, and the earthiness of the other ingredients. The tea itself smells subtly of salted caramel and oolong tea.

Taste: The caramel pairs very nicely with the oolong tea. It’s not too salty; I don’t find any of the flavours to be overpowering. Overall it’s just a very good tea—very decadent.

I could totally see this becoming one of my favourite teas.
